The Scholarships and Awards Program of the Rotary Club of Peekskill has as its primary objectives recognizing the achievements of students graduating from Hendrick Hudson, Peekskill and Walter Panas High Schools; and encouraging higher education for young people in the Peekskill and Cortlandt area. The club’s scholarships and awards support study in a wide range of post-high school study in 4-year, 2-year and vocational programs. Distinctive to the Rotary program is the focus on service to community, school and family among criteria for selection, in addition to academic achievement. This criterion is founded on Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self.

Veterans Appreciation Day

On Sunday May 20, 2023 the Peekskill Rotary Club hosted a Veterans’ Appreciation Day event. The event will took place at Taormina Restaurant in Peekskill, NY. Marisol Jimenez of the Rotary Club of Peekskill organized the event which was a celebration of food and music in honor of our nation’s veterans.

Dry Stone Walling 3-Day Class

Offered by The STONE Trust April 30, May 1 and May 2, 2022

2022 Workshop Description

The long term goal of this partnership with The Stone Trust is to develop a repeatable vocational training program that can help young people develop skills in and assess their interest in dry stone walling as a career path.

There is no cost for our students as it will be covered by a donation from the Lanza Family Foundation, Manzer's Landscape Design & Development, Inc. and The Peekskill Rotary Foundation.

Objectives Include:

  • Involving the local Rotary and interested community members in the training program.
  • Constructing an example of high quality stonework on a public site to develop community awareness of dry stone walling and of an intended program to train local youth.
  • Contribute to the cherry blossom weekend event.
  • Advance the training of local masons.
  • Educate the first tranche of local students.

Peekskill Rotary's 1st Annual National Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest

The Hon. Lissette G. Fernández, Peekskill City Court Judge and Luis Segarra, Principal & CFO, The Crescent Companies & Peekskill Rotary Club  sponsor the 1st Annual National Hispanic Heritage Month Student Essay Contest

Rotary’s National Hispanic Heritage Month Student Essay Contest is open to all students enrolled in the Peekskill City School District in grades 4th-12th. Interested students should submit a written essay describing what this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month theme – “Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope”– means to them. Five winners will be selected and awarded a $100.00 scholarship.

Essay Contest Guidelines & Selection Process:

Entry’s must be submitted electronically by 5pm ET on 10/15/21.

Student’s should submit a a written essay describing what this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month theme – “Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope”– means to them. Student’s in the following grades may enter only one essay, written in English, no longer than 200 words (4th-5th), 400 words (6th-8th) and 600 words (9th-12th). Two winners will be selected from the(4th-5th) and, 6th-8th) category. One winner will be selected from the (9th-12th) category. Winners will be notified after October 15, 2021. Rotary will present the winners with $100.00 scholarship on October 21, 2021, during a celebratory luncheon.

Peekskill Rotary Club awards yearly scholarship awards via zoom! This past May and June, during Don Rizzo’s Presidency of the Peekskill Rotary Club in its’ hundredth year, scholarships were given to students with a virtual zoom call. The scholarships are presented to deserving students by the Peekskill Rotary Club every year.

Moises Muniz was inducted at our April 16, 2020 meeting and Ridvan Foxhall was inducted on April 23, 2020. This was the first time that Peekskill Rotary has welcomed a new member during on online meeting. How we handle the traditional method of acquiring signatures on the new white hat remains to be seen.

Disinfecting Fogger Donation to PCVAC

The Peekskill Rotary Club raised over $4,000 in donations from its members for the Peekskill Community Volunteer Ambulance Corps. at our regular Rotary meeting on Thursday April 16th which was held online via Zoom. The donations are for a "fogger," which is an innovative new surface treatment system that combines proven electrostatic technology with trusted disinfecting products to quickly and easily provide superior coverage in even the hardest-to-reach places.

Peekskill Rotary, with a matching grant from the Rotary District funds, was proud to help sponsor the greenhouse.

A special presentation was given at our January 14, 2016 lunch by Immediate Past President, Don Feldman, to honor Bob Hales. Bob has the distinction of forty years as a Rotarian, all with perfect attendance. Don met Bob when Don bought a practice in Bob’s building, and Bob told him, “You’re coming to lunch with me next Thursday.”
