George Sampson Scholarship

The Scholarships and Awards Program of the Rotary Club of Peekskill has as its primary objectives recognizing the achievements of students graduating from Hendrick Hudson, Peekskill and Walter Panas High Schools; and encouraging higher education for young people in the Peekskill and Cortlandt area. The club’s scholarships and awards support study in a wide range of post-high school study in 4-year, 2-year and vocational programs. Distinctive to the Rotary program is the focus on service to community, school and family among criteria for selection, in addition to academic achievement. This criterion is founded on Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self.

Funded by the estate of former Peekskill Rotary Club President and Paul Harris Fellow George Sampson, graduating seniors from Hendrick Hudson, Peekskill or Walter Panas High Schools are eligible for the award.

George Sampson ran a successful automobile repair shop in Peekskill for many years. The award was established to help young men or women who wish to pursue a career in a trade or craft. Funds provided can be used by recipients to further their specialized schooling or apprenticeship, or to purchase tools for a craft. Selection by a committee of Rotarians is based on focus and need.

This senior should be entering a trade school, apprenticeship, college, or other learning program for this skill. The amount and number of awards is the decision of the Rotary Club of Peekskill, NY.

Applications are due by April 30, 2022. The awards will be presented at a Rotary Lunch Meeting in June
