Peekskill Rotary Latest News

The Scholarships and Awards Program of the Rotary Club of Peekskill has as its primary objectives recognizing the achievements of students graduating from Hendrick Hudson, Peekskill and Walter Panas High Schools; and encouraging higher education for young people in the Peekskill and Cortlandt area. The club’s scholarships and awards support study in a wide range of post-high school study in 4-year, 2-year and vocational programs. Distinctive to the Rotary program is the focus on service to community, school and family among criteria for selection, in addition to academic achievement. This criterion is founded on Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self.

Offered by The STONE Trust April 30, May 1 and May 2, 2022

2022 Workshop Description

The long term goal of this partnership with The Stone Trust is to develop a repeatable vocational training program that can help young people develop skills in and assess their interest in dry stone walling as a career path.

There is no cost for our students as it will be covered by a donation from the Lanza Family Foundation, Manzer's Landscape Design & Development, Inc. and The Peekskill Rotary Foundation.

Objectives Include:

  • Involving the local Rotary and interested community members in the training program.
  • Constructing an example of high quality stonework on a public site to develop community awareness of dry stone walling and of an intended program to train local youth.
  • Contribute to the cherry blossom weekend event.
  • Advance the training of local masons.
  • Educate the first tranche of local students.
